Warm-up trails
Why not warm up for challenging high Alpine trails along mountainside irrigation channel pathways?

Long ago farmers in South Tyrol’s western valley system, Val Venosta/Vinschgau and the environs of the spa town Merano/Meran dug irrigation channels across the mountainsides. Today they make delightful walks.

The dry climate in this area led farmers to divert glacier water from high mountain streams to irrigate their fields. This intricate system of “Waale” with sluices, floodgates and conduits, are lined with shady maintenance pathways, which today are enormously popular for relaxing walks. Not to mention the incredibly high surrounding mountains which are snow-capped even in summer.
