A tour with relatively little ascent however large differences in altitude in the descent and long hours of walking.
From the Seiseralm over the Schlern to St. Zyprian
Starting point: Seiseralm/Alpe di Siusi - Dolomites
Route: Take the bus to Seis (25 minute journey), and then the cable car up to the highest alpine meadow in Europe, (1855m). From here you walk over beautiful meadows to the "Saltner" hut (1830m). Here begins the ascent over the tourist path to the Schlern high plateau and to the Schlern huts (2450m). Take a mid-day rest in the historical protection house. In good weather we recommend an excursion to the Monte Pez, the highest point at 2580m. The view reaches from the "Rosengarten" and the central and eastern groups of the Dolomites to the glacier mountains. The descent leads you across the high plateau and the valley Thomes to the "Tschaftschsattel" (2020m). Here begins a steep but very beautiful descent trough the "Bärenfalle" (bear trap) to the Tschamin hut and to the Cyprianerhof (1175m).
Difficulty: difficult
Walking time: 6 hours
Height difference ascent/descent: 700/1250 m
Height at the starting point/highest point: 1850/2580 m
Nature of the route: over rocks and meadows
Best season: June - October
Refreshments available: Prossliner pasture, Schlern hut and Tschamin pasture
Map: Tabacco (map of the natural park Sciliar Rosengarten) 1:25.000

Sights along the way: Views: one of the most beautiful mountains in the Dolomites. Geology and alpine Flora: from the "Seiseralm" pasture with volcanic rocks to the bright Schlern dolomite. Access: by taking the cable car, the ascent is substantially shortened. The entire high plateau of the "Schlern" is crossed.
