"Chamois safari" with snow shoes on the Alpe di Siusi

With bright sunshine and a few centimeters of fresh snow, we start to our snowshoe hike over rolling hills and valleys, passing near snow covered cottages and alpine dairy huts.
After about an hour we reach an ideal place from which we can observe the chamois. Here in South Tyrol the typical habitat of the chamois are the high mountains and the alpine meadows, down to the tree line. In summer the chamois prefer shadow layers and in winter you can find them mainly on the sunny side. The chamois is a diurnal animal and makes use of the early morning, afternoon and evening hours to look for food. The chamois is an excellent climber in the rock and by a disproportionately large lung capable of tremendous achievements.
After intense observation of nature and animals, we return safely back from this great adventure on the Piz to the Hotel Icaro.
