South Tyrol’s world of mountains offers optimal climatic conditions for cultivating medicinal plants, herbs and aromatic spices. There are about 40 farms in South Tyrol that grow, pick and dry medicinal plants, herbs and aromatic spices. Of these 9 are entitled to use South Tyrol’s quality mark for their products.

There is always the right herb
A large number of medicinal plants, herbs and aromatic spices have permission to bear South Tyrol’s quality mark. Among them are lemon balm and monarda (bee balm), marigold and cornflower and various types of mint. South Tyrol’s medicinal plants, herbs and aromatic spices distinguish themselves from others by their especially intensive aroma and bright colours. Medicinal plants, herbs and aromatic spices have an effect proven to be good for one’s health. For example lemon balm has a soothing effect and eases digestion. The ingredients of marigold can have an anti-inflammatory effect and the cornflower can dehydrate. Peppermint is said to relieve cramp and have painkilling, refreshing and appetite-stimulating properties.
