Frequent questions about skiing in the Italian Alps

Can I ski sustainably in the Italian Alps?
In South Tyrol in the Italian Alps, more and more ski areas are committed to sustainable skiing and are working on the use of green energy sources, reducing emissions, and promoting environmentally friendly mobility.
At our Vitalpina Hotels, your sustainable skiing holiday in South Tyrol begins as early as your journey. We promote car-free holidays and also take responsibility on site through plastic reduction, water-saving measures, climate-friendly energy generation, waste avoidance, local cycles, regional sourcing, and greater responsibility for our environment. Learn more about our sustainable hotels for your skiing holiday in South Tyrol!
How snow-sure is South Tyrol?
Where South Tyrol has the most reliable snow conditions and where the most snow falls varies from year to year. In glacier and glacier-near ski areas, such as Schnalstal Valley near Merano, Sulden at Ortler, or Stilfser Joch, the chances of naturally snow-covered slopes are higher. But all other ski areas can also guarantee very good slope conditions for several months thanks to snowmaking facilities.
During winters with less snow, you can still enjoy South Tyrol’s fresh winter air on walks and gentle hikes.
What do the Vitalpina skiing hotels in South Tyrol offer?
Movement and mountains, pleasure and health, relaxation and nature: our skiing hotels in South Tyrol in the Italian Alps combine everything that makes a holiday truly enjoyable. True to the motto “We love mountains, we live nature,” we offer a varied activity program, wholesome and delicious cuisine, and wellness oases that help you switch off naturally. What is the best month to ski in the Italian Alps?
If you would like to avoid the hustle and bustle of the classic holiday and vacation weeks, you should visit the Italian Alps at the beginning or end of the season – depending on snow conditions, from the end of November or in March. If, on the other hand, you prefer a sociable atmosphere and would like to combine your skiing holiday in the Italian Alps with the magic of Advent and Christmas, December, January, and February are ideal. At higher altitudes, sunny spring skiing is often possible until early April. Feel free to browse the holiday packages offered by our Vitalpina Hotels – perhaps you’ll find something for your preferred travel period!
Where to ski in the Italian Alps?
South Tyrol in northern Italy, with its famous Dolomite mountains, is one of the most popular winter sports destinations in the Italian Alps.
