Eastern face of Croda Rossa di Sesto (Sextner Rotwand)

14.06.2016 - by Vitalpina Hotels Südtirol
Category: Pleasure walk

This high trail does not run way up through mountain cliffs but at the tree line, or slightly lower, along the northern face of Croda Rossa di Sesto (Sextner Rotwand) Peak
  •  Start- and target point: Sesto
  •  Duration: 5:00 h
  •  Distance: 11,0 km
  •  Altitude: 0 m
  •  Max. height: 1.923 m
Ascent: From Moso (Moos) in Sesto (Sexten) at 1,339 metres on foot along the road leading into Fischleintal Valley, it’s a short walk to the valley station of the cable car, which you take up the Rotwandwiesen pastures (1,925 m; two taverns; 1.5 hours on foot). High Trail: From the mountain station, follow Trail No. 15 over the pastures and then south through a sparse forest, up to the fork in the road. Here, take Trail No. 15a to the left and continue on this good trail, which is a relatively flat hike through a stand of mountain pine, across some scree, and then through dense mountain forest, practically straight south, to a pronounced ridge at the foot of Papernkofel Mountain. Continue down across a forested ridge to the summit station of the ski lift and across grassy slopes down to Montecroce Comelico (Kreuzberg) Pass (1,636 m, a few hotels); 2.5 hours from Rotwandwiesen. Descent: From Montecroce Comelico, either by some means of transport or on foot through the forest on Trail No. 13a, which branches off to the right a little north of the pass, down towards Moso, a good hour hike.
