Today we have choosen the Plätzwiese/Prato Piazza on 2,000 meters over sea level. Without any doubt it is one of the most visited places in the nature preserve Fanes-Sennes-Prags.
Instead of taking the car to the Plätzwiese hut in the Pragser Tal, we have choosen the more difficult but even more beautiful way over Altschluderbach. On half way between Toblach and Cortina the way starts on an old military road, which has been used for hiking for many years. Already on the first meters we are fascinted by the amazing view on the Dolomites. After 2,5 hours hiking time we reach the Dürrenstein hut on about 2,000 meters over sea level. Also worth seeing is the "flood barrier Plätzwiese", which is an old ruine from the time of the Austrian-Hungary Monarchy. The ruine is still in a very good condition. After a traditional lunch some of us have taken the way to the very close Plätzwiesen hut. The only thing we were able to do is to enjoy the lovely landscape. Exhausted but still in a good mood we headed all together back to the Hotel.
