Nature and Culture Along the Chestnut Trail...
Imagine sitting under a huge chestnut tree and resting the whole weight of your body against the tree trunk. Step off the wheel of time, take a little breather, and sharpen your senses: you’re guaranteed to gain a new perceptive of the natural environment. Sometimes it's good to be proactive about finding time for yourself. With a little distance from everyday life, we become receptive once again to the allure of Mother Nature, attuning ourselves to the silent messages sent us by the environment and to our own internal needs. A change of scenery is the easiest way to do this; when it comes to choosing a setting, there couldn’t be a better option than South Tyrol’s enchanting Mediterranean-Alpine landscape.

The hosts of the Vitalpina Hotels – all of which undergo the most stringent of quality controls – are highly trained specialists in active wellbeing. Attention to breath is an important pillar of the Vitalpina concept. Normally, your breathing rhythm throughout the day is inconspicuous, unabated, and consistent; if you deliberately turn your attention to your breath, you will discover interesting resources within yourself and will soon see the world with new eyes and senses. Hiking in the great outdoors is a wonderful opportunity to try out some of the Vitalpina breathing tips.

A good example is a hike along the Valle Isarco (Eisacktal) Chestnut Trail: this continuous ribbon of chestnut groves runs through the sunny side of the valley from Abbazia di Novacella (Neustift) Abbey, near Bressanone (Brixen), up to the Renon (Rittner) Plateau, continuing into Bolzano valley basin to the legendary Runkelstein Castle, which is known for its frescoes. A wide variety of artistic and cultural monuments make good excuses to stay awhile and breathe the atmosphere of this very unique landscape.

The Chestnut Trail, which is marked “Keschtn-Weg”, runs through colourful forests, across sun-drenched meadows, and past many quaint Buschen taverns where you can stop and get a bite to eat. Every conscious breath brings a little higher quality of life into your body. A glance through the golden-yellow chestnut leaves against the sun, a little breather – literally – at an outlook point overlooking the beautiful Valle Isarco, and a brisk walk to the nearest bench in the sun: all these little things awaken inner landscapes within you.

Let your spirit get a chance to speak. The South Tyrol Vitalpina Hotels invite you to recharge your batteries amidst the bright autumn colours of South Tyrol's spectacular landscape.
