To the Obisell alpine pastures

15.06.2016 - by Vitalpina Hotels Südtirol
Category: Pleasure walk
At an elevation of 2,000 metres in the Outer Val Passiria (Passeiertal) Valley
  •  Start- and target point: Rifiano
  •  Duration: 4:15 h
  •  Distance: 10,2 km
  •  Altitude: 780 m
  •  Max. height: 2.158 m
Begin at the parking lot of Oberöberst Tavern, above Vernuer, at 1,387 m; approach is via a street that branches off from the main road through Val Passiria (Passeirtal) Valley, between Riffiano (Riffian) and Saltaus. From the parking lot, follow signs for Obisell: you’ll start out crossing the forest on a wide trail, which is nearly flat, heading northwest into the steep Saltauser Valley. Follow trail markings (No. 5) along an easy mountain trail, which has safety railings in the places where it is exposed, through steep and sometimes rocky slopes, all the way up to the Unteren (Lower) Obisellalm alpine farm (2,002 m; no food service). Continue climbing up Trail No. 5 to Obisellsee Lake and the Obere (Upper) Obisellalm alpine farm (2,160 m; usually serves food late into autumn); about 2.5 hours from the parking lot. Recommended Descent: From the Alm, follow Trail No. 5 down to the crossroads. Turn right, following signs for Hahnenkamm through open mountain slopes up to the Hahnenkamm mountain hut (approx. 2,050 m). Take Trail No. 21 down to another crossroads (approx. 1,950 m); from there on, continue on a footpath (marked No. 21A), through the forest down a medium grade to the parking area at Oberöberst Tavern; around 2 hours from the Alm.
