GREEN WINTER
No, this isn’t about climate change or what it means for South Tyrol’s picture-postcard winters. Nor will we conjure up images of lush green meadows below an altitude of 1,500 metres, but instead we tell you why we at the Vitalpina Hotels have fallen head over heels in love with our “green” winters. Come and take a look!
If you’ve never experienced the wonders of winter in South Tyrol, you’ve certainly missed out, as they say. It’s true that there are the mountains with their magnificent ski lifts and perfectly groomed pistes – often however teeming with people at peak times. But there is another side to the South Tyrolean winter – the “green” winter.
We say “green”, because it is a much gentler sort of winter. Gentle on nature and gentle on you: with wonderful long walks through the crisp snow, trees all covered in white around you. A glistening sea, as far as the eye can see. Every now and then tracks cross your path: sometimes a deer, sometimes you might recognise the little paws of a rabbit. All is bright, light and sparkling. Everything is quiet, asleep under a thick white blanket. The sun paints long shadows on this gigantic canvas, drawing a picture of a holiday that you are sure not to forget: a leisurely walk along a forest path, perhaps step by step on touring skis or snowshoes towards the summit, or on cross-country skis as you glide along the trails. This is our green winter: a gentle dream, all in white!
