Hiking: a step towards inner health
And we are particularly fortunate here in South Tyrol, because we’ve got it all: from leisurely walking tours that are suitable for beginners and families, through to challenging fixed rope routes (via ferrata).
And especially now, with its beautiful autumn colours, nature becomes a unique highlight.
But it’s not just fitness and the physical benefits that we are talking about today (although these are a positive side effect), but about our inner selves: what does hiking do for us and for our spirit??
It’s good for the heart: the continuous activity and various challenges will stimulate the circulation of the blood, which in turn improves the oxygen supply to our organs; blood pressure is reduced, good HDL cholesterol is increased and the risk of heart disease is thus decreased.
It’s good for the mind: a deep breath of pure, fresh mountain air, the tranquillity of the natural world and the sound of birdsong all help clear our minds and sort out our thoughts: we in turn become more creative and more balanced.
The calming effect releases endorphins and lowers our stress levels.
So look forward to the feeling of happiness that comes afterwards. And, should your calves still be aching, we have a ready cure: short break with a little refreshment.
