LIFE IS GREEN.
It only takes a few warm rays of sunshine, and everything around us is more colourful, cheerful and lively once more. At first, just a few delicate blades of grass break through the greys and browns that winter has left behind: then it all happens at breakneck speed. The tender stalks grow stronger as new ones appear. The first buds form on the trees, soon turning into fine-looking leaves.
It is a true wonder how nature puts on its best show for us, each year anew. And what it does for us humans is also a wonder, rebooting us, positively affecting us with its freshness and vitality. Meadows, parks and forests wake from their slumbers and restore themselves to life.
GREEN IS CONTENTMENT.
Interestingly enough, a recent study carried out worldwide by the University of Mainz revealed that the colour green is globally popular. While not associated everywhere with the same emotions, the colour nevertheless has a good reputation: above all, it always radiates a certain feeling of contentment, whatever the situation. For us people of the Alps, this probably also has historical grounds, because it meant that another harsh, barren winter was over. The new green brought relief, soon restored variety to our plates, saw the animals return to the meadows and up onto the mountain pastures.
PERHAPS THAT’S WHY IT’S ALSO THE COLOUR OF HOPE.
The hope for the coming spring that brings the world back to vibrant life; the hope for the green traffic light that tells us that things are moving forward again; and the wonderful relief of ticking a nice green box next to a completed action on a to-do list. Green has thoroughly positive connotations, from the green shamrock whose four leaves promise us true happiness, to the green light that shows us that a device is active or ready for use.
GREEN IS HEALTH.
Nettles, wild garlic, goutweed, lemon balm, ribwort, sage, mint, horsetail, hyssop and all the rest: knowledge of the power of herbs and of medicinal plants has ultimately also lent its loud tones to the art of healing itself. It is therefore no coincidence that we associate the colour green with health and recovery, that many medicines deliberately have green packaging, or that pharmacies in many countries are indicated with a green cross.
AND NATURE IS GREEN.
Not much by way of explanation is needed – just open your eyes. Collapsing onto the soft grass of a lovely meadow, or taking a deep breath in the middle of a forest. Here you can completely unwind in no time at all, all while fully recharging your batteries. This is where life is at its fullest – so get out of the grey and into the green!
