Naturally coloured Easter eggs
You can make natural colours from onion peelings, carrots, beetroot, turmeric, spinach and even coffee to give your Easter eggs beautiful colourings. Whether yellow, green, red or violet – there are (practically) no limits to your imagination.
This is how to make natural dyes:
Turmeric = golden yellow
Boil ten grams of turmeric powder in half a litre of water for ten minutes.
Onion peel = golden brown
Cook a handful of old onion peelings in half a litre of water for about 20 minutes.
Carrots = orange-yellow
Simmer 250 grams of finely chopped carrots in a litre of water for 30 to 40 minutes.
Beetroot = red/violet
Peel three beetroots and simmer, covered, for 30 to 45 minutes.
Spinach = green
Cover 300 grams of spinach with water and cook for 30 to 45 minutes.
Coffee – dyes Easter eggs naturally brown
Simmer 30 to 50 grams of coffee powder with two litres of water for 20 to 30 minutes.
