When people go on holiday, they usually want to travel somewhere where nature is pristine and the environment unspoiled. Nobody wants to spend an already-too-short holiday in a place badly affected by pollution. The 33 members of the Vitalpina Hotels Südtirol group are firmly committed to our environment and, above all, to their guests’ desire to enjoy an eco-friendly holiday. Our dedication to environmentally conscious tourism has earned us the highest EU award: the Ecolabel for tourism accommodation services.
More than any other sector, the existence of tourism requires an unspoiled environment. Hotel operators and guests alike are becoming increasingly aware of this fact, as well as of the negative impact that tourism can potentially have on the surrounding countryside. For this reason the Vitalpina Hotels group wants to do its share towards ensuring a sustainable and clean environment. We work with our employees and suppliers on a daily basis, in order to comply with the 85 criteria of the European Ecolabel. The worst environmental damage that results from the three phases of the tourism service provision lifecycle – purchasing, supply and waste – is thus minimized to the extent possible.
We motivate our employees to act in a way that is environmentally sound through regular training, recommending a healthy lifestyle, demanding efficient use of energy and water, separating waste conscientiously, avoiding environmentally damaging and hazardous substances during construction and renovation work, using local building materials, avoiding long transport distances for food and sourcing products that are of the highest quality and as regional as possible.
We also encourage our guests to support us in consciously approaching the environment in a sustainable way. Even without putting in a lot of effort, you can contribute to sustainability during your holiday at one of our hotels. Examples include: turning the lights off when you leave the room, ventilating intermittently, changing the bed linen and towels only when necessary, and being sure that you separate waste. Another very helpful thing is to leave your car behind and use public transport to reach a wide variety of destinations.
Even small contributions have a big impact if everyone shoulders a bit of the burden. As a hotel, it’s worthwhile to make sustainability a priority; as a guest, it’s likewise worthwhile to travel in an environmentally friendly way. In the end, every action we take leaves behind a mark on the world, and it is always better to leave an environmentally aware footprint. For the sake of our world!
